Cloud workspaces
Workspaces Motion runs for you — no machine of your own required.
A cloud workspace is the same workspace software as a self-hosted one, except Motion provisions and runs the container for you. Nothing to install — create it in the dashboard and open it.
Create one
In your dashboard → Workspaces → Create → Cloud. Motion spins up a container
and the workspace appears in your list. Open it with Open IDE, or share a
deep link (motionis.xyz/w/<code>/).
What's inside
The same as any Motion workspace:
- A full IDE — editor, file tree, search, git.
- A terminal (real shell) and file browser, right in the dashboard dock.
- The AI agent and the agentic browser.
- Your vault secrets, seeded in.
Lifecycle
- Start / stop from the workspace row.
- Live metrics (CPU, RAM, network) and open ports in the dock's Tools tab — these come from Docker on the hub, so they're richer than self-hosted boxes.
- Multiple workspaces can be open at once under
/w/<code>/paths.
Cloud vs self-hosted
| Cloud | Self-hosted | |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs it | Motion | You (Docker or native) |
| Your hardware | not needed | your VM / homelab / laptop |
| Reached by the hub | directly | over the tunnel |
| Ports / Docker metrics | ✅ | metrics yes, ports no |
Both are the same software — pick cloud for zero setup, self-hosted to use your own machine and files.
